There are many people that are allergic to animals. In many cases, allergies to animals seem to run in families which would mean that the allergies are inherited. Inherited allergies result from a genetic hypersensitivity to the allergens.
This panel will check for five common animal allergies:
- Chicken Feathers
- Cow Dander
- Goose Feathers
- Horse Dander
- Mouse Urine Proteins
Allergy symptoms can show up within 30 minutes of exposure but may not occur until a couple of hours later. It has been seen that symptoms can increase in severity for 8-12 hours following exposure.
Reactions may cause one or more of these symptoms:
- Itchy, watery, swollen eyes
- Itchy, runny nose; sneezing
- Nasal congestion
- Rash on face, neck and upper chest (seen in severe cases)
- Shortness of breath
